Happy weekend everyone. I hope you all enjoy your Sunday. I am very excited for the Celtics game and the Oscars tonight. I am a huge movie buff!
I can't believe that this is the last week of March. It seems we just decorated the classroom for March yesterday. The time sure flies. This week we will be celebrating Read-A-Thon/Book Fair. We will be going to the Book Fair on Monday for our preview and then back on Thursday for buying. Remember that each of our third graders will be able to choose a book for $6.00. This is one of their rewards that comes out of their Michaelmas Fund. We will go to the library as a class on Friday from 10:35 to 11:15 to read. Dress up days for the week are as follows. Monday-bright colors day Tuesday-dress as a traveler da Wednesday-sport theme day Thursday-princess, prince, superhero Friday-Bobcat Day-blue and yellow It should be a fun week. We can even win books for our class library through the pledges all week. This week, we will be in Wonders, Unit 5-week 2. The spelling words are listed on this site on the spelling page. They are very tricky. We will be taking our unit 6 math assessment on Tuesday. The kids are all ready for it. Hopefully, everyone was able to view the report cards. Please send back the envelope with a signature for the second trimester. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Have a great day everyone and a great week ahead. Stay healthy and safe. Happy weekend everyone. It looks like a pretty decent day today after the gloomy Saturday. I may take a ride down to see the St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston.
We had a great week. Between pies, the leprechaun visiting and Ben's birthday, we had a lot going on! This week should be a little more normal. The kids brought their book fair papers home. The pledge sheets will be returned on April 1st. This is a yearly fundraiser for the PTA. The kids will get to dress up as their favorite book character. I will let you know the date as we get closer. Report cards will be coming home this week. The kids have done a great job. They have grown in so many ways since September and they are progressing very nicely on the road to fourth grade. I can't believe we only have 58 days of school left. Where does the time go? This week in Wonders, we are doing Unit 5-week 1. The genre is a fairy tale. This story is a favorite with the kids. The spelling words are listed on the spelling page of this website. In math, we are finishing up unit 6. We are working on division stories, long division, and fast math for multiplication. Our president's unit is in full swing, and the kids are really enjoying that. In science this week, we will be making paper houses to stand up to a hurricane. This is a fun experiment for the kids. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone and enjoy the rest of the week. Stay healthy and safe! Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you had a nice first half of the weekend. We had dog duty since Thursday and we returned Blue to Peterborough yesterday morning before the bad weather hit. Now my driveway is covered with two inches of frozen junk which will make it just wonderful to get up and down until it melts. I have nightmares about our driveway!
On Monday we will celebrate PI-(pie) Day. The kids are very excited and we are already singing the PI song that gets stuck in our heads. Thank you everyone who decided to make or purchase a pie. We really appreciate it. Thank you for helping to create memories that the kids will take with them from third grade and remember a lifetime. In Wonders this week, we will be on Unit 4-week 5. It is a poetry unit. We will be discussing different kinds of poems and we will attempt to write our own. The spelling words are listed on the spelling page of this site. In math , we are in unit 6 and still doing our fast math. Please have the kids keep studying their facts for at least 15 minutes each night. We are also doing some fun experiments and math problems for PI Day. We have started our presidential unit and everyone has picked a president. We will do most of the research in the classroom. Most of us have had a chance to do some research already and we have learned quite a bit. We will take and study one president each day. We will study the president, learn about the First Lady, look at each house where they grew up in and do a little fun project for each one. If the kids would like a challenge, they can learn the names of all the presidents in order. When they are ready, they can recite them to me and the class. A very nice prize will await them. Remember that is only for the kids who would like a challenge. K.S. has already accepted the challenge and did an amazing job! In science, we will be finishing up our weather unit. We have one last unit where the kids will be constructing a house to stand up against bad weather and lots of wind. This week we studied hot air balloons and flight. The kids constructed their own paper airplanes and we had a flying contest. The next day we had our resident engineer, C.P. teach us how to make a proper airplane. Then we went outside and had a flying contest. The kids had a blast. Now it is time for C.P., K.S., and myself to have a championship runoff. We were the three with the longest flight. Over 25 feet! We are back into the cafeteria for lunch and the kids are loving it. They have done very well the last three days. Have a great rest of the weekend everybody. I will see all of the kids tomorrow for PI Day. Stay safe and healthy! Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful vacation and I hope you enjoy your last day of February break. The week in Florida was just beautiful. The drove home was perfect. 21 hours straight through with no traffic. We left Florida at 9:00am on Friday and were home at 6:00am on Saturday. Lots of coffee stops. It was very interesting to watch the gas prices go up higher as we headed North.
I can't wait to hear about all of the adventures you had over the week. Please remember that there is no school on Tuesday, March, 8th. It is town voting day. This week in Wonders, we will be doing Unit 4-week 4. Our story is " Hot Air Balloons ". The new spelling words are listed on the spelling page. In math we will continue with unit 6 and we will continue to work on multiplication facts. We will begin our Presidential Unit this week. It will be a very comprehensive unit that will take about 8 weeks. The kids are very excited about the presidents. A lot of us have learned so much already. Have a great day everyone. See you guys tomorrow! |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
