I hope everyone had a good week. We couldn't keep any kind of consistency this week with the delays and the weird weather. We are still waiting for a good old-fashion snowstorm! Maybe at the end of this week.
It has been great sharing the progress of the kids at the conferences with some of you. This class is amazing. Congratulations to all who participated in the Lip Sync. Everyone that gets up there on that stage is a winner in my eyes. The Third Grade Thunder was well represented. Great job everyone. I wanted to win our New England Sports basket so I could share it out with the class, but it just wasn't meant to be. Our basket was amazing! Congratulations to all of the winners. We have three of our family members going to Community Meeting this Thursday morning. Congratulations to them. We will be extending our Wonders unit to the end of this week. We will also be tested on the same spelling words that we studied last week. The kids are very interested in the Space unit, so we have been researching all kinds of information on Space and planets. In Math, we are working on measurement and Geometry. We are learning about the different units of measurement on rulers. Our fast math has begun, and the kids are very excited about it. The more they study their facts, the better off they will be. I can't believe that we are halfway through the school year. We are coming up to the 100th day. We will be discussing the upcoming Valentine's Day Party. I will ask the kids what they would like for treats and the room moms will put up a Sign Up Genius. Snowing up on the hill like crazy. I don't think we got as much snow as we were supposed to get, but it is not over yet. Just heard there is a two hour delay tomorrow. Yes, we have school. Three hours to go for the big game. Go Pats!!!!
We have finished our Aimsweb assessments for winter. The kids did an amazing job. I am so proud of all of them. They really rocked it out. Math scores and reading scores were so impressive. Thank you kids for doing your best. In reading this week, we are in Wonders, Unit 3 week 3. The new spelling words are posted on the spelling page. Our genre this week is Expository Text. In math, we are continuing our Geometry unit and measurement unit. The kids are doing a great job. Please have the kids study their multiplication facts at home. We will be starting our fast math this week. Everyone will be starting with the 2's. We have four members of our third grade family going to the Community Meeting on January 31st. Congratulations you guys. Our basket looks amazing. Thank you everyone who helped make it a great one. Thank you Mrs. Jordan for taking on the challenge of managing all of the baskets. I want to win our basket so badly!!!! Have a great week everyone. Be careful on the roads. Cheering for the Patriots right now. What a game. On to Kansas City. I hope everyone had a great weekend. It sure was a cold one.
The kids will be taking their Aimsweb reading and math assessments for the second time this year. Tuesday morning at 8:10 we will do the math test and Wednesday morning at 8:10 we will do the reading test. Please encourage the kids to do their best and have them get a good night's rest before the test. We should see some nice growth from September scores. In Wonders this week we will be on Unit 3 week 2. In math, we continue to work on measurement. Our read aloud book for the next few weeks will be, "Danny The Champion of the World." The kids will love it. We have four more days to complete our class basket. Thank you all who contributed so far. I bought some things this weekend also. Don't forget our theme is New England sports. Thank you in advance. Please encourage the kids to submit things to Joe's English for the next Community Meeting which will be held on January 31st. Have a great week everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend. We can now get back to a regular routine, hopefully. It would be nice to see some snow out on the playground so the kids can go sledding at recess. Maybe this week?
Please don't forget about the class basket. We have some really nice sports items already. Mrs. Jordan is taking care of that for us. Anything to do with New England Sports will be awesome. There is also a sign-up genius on line for the parents. Thank you. We are back to Wonders spelling this week. We will begin Unit 3, week one. You can find the new words on our website. We will be taking our unit 3 math assessment this week. We have reviewed all of the material and I am pretty sure that the kids are ready for it. Please have the kids keep practicing their multiplication facts at home. We will also start minute math this week. This is to reinforce the facts that the kids are working on. It is an independent math sheet where each student goes at their own pace. Once certain facts are passed a number of times, they move on to the next set of facts. The kids loved it last year. It goes all the way up to the 12s. Our next community meeting will be on the 31st of January. Please encourage the kids to submit something. It can be music, dance, a homemade movie, a picture, or anything of that nature. It does not always need to be a writing piece. Don't forget if you have any spare time in the morning, the kids would love some help editing their journals. Journal time is from 8:00 to 8:30. Have a great week everyone. Happy New Year to The Third Grade Thunder and all of their families. I hope you all had a great vacation. I missed all of you and I am looking forward to spending the rest of the year with you. We will also have a new student in our class beginning on January 2. Please make him feel at home and welcome him to our third grade family. I had a great time in New York City with my nephew Mr. Chris. We are ready to get back to school.
This week, being a short one, we will be reviewing most of our material that we covered the week before Christmas break. We will get ready for our Unit 3 Math assessment and get back to our poetry unit. We will try to finish up our weather unit in Science and tackle the upper case cursive letters. In the next couple of weeks, we will do our Aimsweb assessments in Reading and Math. That should show some nice growth from the beginning of the year. We will continue our weekly story on Tuesday in the Union Leader. Have a good week everyone. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
