Thank you to all who came to Open House and the wonderful performance. It was great to see everybody and the kids really appreciated the support. I was so proud of all of them. We really had a packed house.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Lots of shopping baking, and lots of decorating. We will have a normal week(yeah okay Mr. Mud). We will extend Wonders week 5 and have a new set of special spelling words for the holidays. I am going to wait for our Unit 3 Math test until after the holidays. We will have our Christmas party at 1:00 on Friday. Please feel free to come in and join us. We will do our gift exchange and feast on all the goodies. I will have the classroom tree on Monday and kids can sneak their gifts to their Secret Santa under the tree. On Tuesday morning, one of my friends will come in and we will make ornaments for our parents. This has been a yearly tradition. The kids will love it. Don't forget if you would like a conference, shoot me an e-mail or stop in and set up a time. Have a great week everyone. I hope everyone had a nice 3 day weekend. We had a wonderful trip to New York City with friends. It was so much fun getting into the spirit in the Big Apple. Shopping, eating and light touring.
This week we will be busy putting the final touches on our Christmas play. We will present our play on Thursday at 8:30 and then again at 6:30 after the Open House. Please remember that Open House begins at 6:00 in the classroom and then parents may go down to the gym to get seats for the play starting at 6:20. The kids have been working so hard and the play is going to be very entertaining. The kids will be coming home with their names for the Secret Santa gift exchange. Remember to wrap the gift and leave the "from" a question mark. We will guess to see how many kids can get it right. This week we are working in Wonders Unit 2-week 5. In math, we are finishing up Unit 3. Hope to see all of you at Open House on Thursday at 6:00. Please make sure the kids have their appropriate costumes for the play by Tuesday. Happy December everyone. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at the Muds. Every room here is literally turned into Christmas. A tree in every room. My favorite time of the year.
Don't forget on Tuesday we will have our field trip, and Friday there is no school. On December 13th we will have our performance, "A Pirate's Christmas." We will be busy all this week working on it. The kids are working so hard and they are so excited for everyone to see it. We will be performing at 8:30 on December 13th, for the rest of the school and those who can't make the evening performance. We will have an Open House in the classroom starting at 6:00. From there the parents can go down and get seats and leave the kids with me. The performance will begin at 6:30 sharp. Hope to see all of you there. It is sure to be a very entertaining evening. Our Christmas party will be held on December 21, in the afternoon. The room moms will be in touch with you as to want we will need. I will ask the kids what they would like for food and refreshments. I would like to do a gift exchange with the kids. The kids will pick a name and they can buy that person a gift. The trick is to keep it a secret. I will talk to the kids about really thinking about the person they drew and to get something that they really like. We have been together now for almost 4 months. Please try and keep the cost around eight dollars so it will be fair for everyone. In the past, the kids like to give hints to each other that last week of school before the Christmas break. They also like to give little "Secret Santa" trinkets. Something small and simple. Please wrap the gift for your person and put to..."their name" and leave from "blank". We give the kids three guesses to see if they can guess who picked them. We will then see who is good at keeping secrets. We heard that "Teddy" the elf is on his way from the North Pole and he should arrive this week. Teddy is very mischievous and he likes to eat. Get ready for some good stories. In Social Studies, we are finishing up our Native American unit. The kids did a great job on their projects. They each presented their project to their classmates and the kids could ask questions and give comments. I was very proud of all of them. 12 classes came into our museum and parents and grandparents as well. Miss Underwood came in and said the kids were really sharp and knew their stuff. There was a variety of different projects this year and the creativity really was evident. So many wonderful comments from everyone who visited. Thank you everyone. The grades will be closing this week and report cards will be coming home on the 14th of December. Please remember that this a whole new grading system and it will be much different fro the old grading system. This new report card will tell much more about your child. Remember it is still a working document and it is a new experience for everyone. The school website will have the explanation of the grades, and all of the parents were given a copy and saw a power point at "Back To School Night". The kids are becoming familiar with standards and the new grading system. We remember our theme this year is "An Open Mindset". In Science, we are still working on our unit of weather. We have done two experiments so far and the kids get very excited about making predictions. We have finished all the lower case letters in cursive. Some of our Third Grade Thunder are very good cursive writers. I am very impressed. Now we will take on the capitals and learn to spell everyone's name in cursive. Almost half of us are writing in cursive already. In Wonders reading, we are finishing our week four reading assignment. The theme is animals and what we can do to make the environment better for them. In math, we continue with unit 3. Please keep the kids busy at practicing their multiplication facts up to the fives. If there is no set homework assignment, the kids can always practice cursive and work on their multiplication facts. Have a wonderful week everyone and we will see some of you on Tuesday. Have fun with your kids and your friends and families. Tis the season. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
