It is hard to believe that it is the last week of school before February vacation. I hope everyone has a great vacation. Safe travels if you are traveling somewhere.
In reading this week, we will be in Wonders-Unit 4 week 2. The new spelling words are posted on the spelling page. They are very tricky words this week. In math, we will still continue with our fraction unit and concentrate on our multiplication facts. Some of us are getting very good and fast at our facts. Tomorrow afternoon(Tuesday) we will be going on our walking field trip to the New Boston Historical Society. The kids are very excited about this. We will be going with our first grade reading buddies. On Friday we will be watching our movie in class for a reward and for vacation. The kids are welcome to dress up for non-fiction day. That means they can dress up as a real character from history or modern day. We will be doing favorite book characters(fiction characters) in March. We are working on our second formal writing piece of the year. This is our" opinion" writing piece. We have read different picture books with strong opinions and have discussed the rubric. We did one together, and now for stage 2. The kids will do one on their own and then it will be scored. Have a good week. Thank you to everyone who sent in toppings and ice cream, drinks, and cookies and cupcakes. The party was awesome. The kids were so happy. Also, thank you for coming to our performance on Valentine's Day. I thought the kids did an awesome job. They received so many compliments on how confident and sincere they were. I couldn't agree more!!!
Happy 100th day of school on Monday. It is hard to believe that the year is more than half over. The Radsox are progressing very nicely with their studies.
On Wednesday, February 14th at 8:30 in the library, we will be doing a special Valentine presentation for parents, grandparents, and friends with our first grade reading buddies. This is truly a special yearly tradition that you don't want to miss. Bring your recording devices. Hope to see you there. The program should take about 45 minutes. We will start right at 8:30. At 1:00, on February 14th, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day with a small party. We will be passing out our Valentines and making our own ice cream sundaes. There is a sign-up genius on line. Kids may bring in their Valentine boxes when they are finished. I sent a class list home on Friday with all of the kids. Please feel free to join us for the party. We will be starting a new Wonders Unit and a new Math Unit. The new spelling words for Unit 4-week 1 are posted on the spelling page of the web site. Our unit in math will be focusing in fractions. We will also be practicing our 2's through 5's multiplication tables. This week the whole school will be working on acts of kindness. Look for the red strips that will be hanging up in the hallway. We are on our way to the Reading Challenge which will end in April. We have chosen to read one million words through the Reading Counts program. The kids are very busy reading books and taking quizzes. In Social Studies, we are comparing New Boston with other communities around the United States. We will be taking a field trip to the Historical Society with our first grade buddies next week. Happy February everyone. I hope everyone gets to enjoy the Super Bowl. We celebrated the Patriots on Friday the 2nd. Hopefully we can celebrate again this week!
On February 14th at 8:30 in the morning, we will be putting on a special presentation with our reading buddies in the library. This is a very special tradition for family and friends. It should last about an hour. Make sure to bring your recording devices. In the afternoon at 1:00, we will have our Valentine's Party. The kids have voted to do "make your own sundaes". The room moms will put a sign-up genius on line. The kids should be making a box at home to hold their valentines. I will be sending home a class list to help with spelling of names. We will be taking a break from Wonders this week. We will concentrate on Social Studies and Science and do some fun writing activities. The spelling list will be posted on the spelling page. We will be taking our Unit 4 Math test this week also. Please have the kids study their multiplication facts a little each night. They should be concentrating on 2's through 5's. We are enjoying the "Wayside School" series. Ask the kids to tell you about it. We also had fun playing the original "Oregon Trail" game on the computer. Unfortunately, none of us made it, but we had a great adventure on the way. The kids had a blast! Hope to see everybody on the 14th. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
