I hope everyone had a great vacation. It is hard to believe that we only have about 2months of school left. The kids are working very hard and they are getting prepared for fourth grade.
On Tuesday, May 1st, we will be having a special guest visit the classroom. Mark Standen from the Manchester Karate School. Mark will be focusing on Self-Control, Listening Skills, Discipline, Good Manners, and Bullying Awareness and Avoidance. the kids are very excited. On Thursday, May 3rd, we will have Jump Rope for Heart. If kids are getting pledges, please make sure they bring the pledges before or on that day. Our jumping time is our regular gym time, 10:35-11:15. Feel free to come and join us. On May 8th, the New England Aquarium will be presenting to all of the third graders in the gym. Hopefully we have some parents signed up to get training for the day. Valerie posted a Sign Up Genius before vacation. Our time will be in the afternoon from 1;00 to 1:45. Trainers are needed for both morning and afternoon sessions. We just finished our Unit 6 Math assessment. Now it is on to chapter 7. More fractions and liquid measurement. The kids are doing a great job on their fast math. Keep studying those multiplication facts. In Wonders Reading, we are on Unit 5-week 3. Our genre for the week is Expository Test. We are working hard to catch up om our President Unit. Our Presidential Reception will be held on the 25th of May in the afternoon. The presidents will make a short speech and presidential snacks will follow. We hope to see all of you there. Remember, the kids will write their speeches in class. They are responsible for finding a costume to dress up like their president. I do have some available outfits and accessories in the classroom if you are having a hard time finding something. Check with me if you need help. Modern presidents can wear white shirts and ties. It is up to the kids if they want to find props. Hope to see you on the 25th. Happy Birthday this month to Sophia, Logan and Jenna. Sitting here doing plans and the sleet is tapping on the windows. Is it really the 15th of April? Grass is all covered in white.
Our testing is finished and we all did our best. Mr. Mud was very proud of everyone. Thank you for all the snacks. The kids and I really appreciated it. We will be back on a regular schedule this week. In Wonders we will be starting Unit 5-week 2. The spelling words are posted on the spelling page. One day this week, we will also be having our unit 6 math test. On May 8th, the New England Aquarium will be coming for the third graders. This will be brought to us by the PTA. They are bringing an inflatable whale which will take up half the gym. We will do two sessions. 8:30 and 1:00. I am looking for three or four volunteers to man the tables for the kids after the presentation. The Aquarium will train you and tell you how to work the table. Tables will have information and all sorts of hands on about whales. Training session will be at 8:30. Our session will be in the afternoon at 1:00. Please let me know if you are interested. We are about halfway through the presidents. The kids are really enjoying he unit. Still looking for a date towards the end of May for our Presidential Reception. So much going on with SAS Testing. We did a mini unit on science that dealt with allergies. This week, we are going to explore pollen and bees. I hope everyone enjoys their vacation next week. We will see the kids back on April 30th. Happy second week of April! Things have been pretty normal and we are cruising right along. Thank you in advance for all of you that are sending in snacks for the SAS testing this week. The testing begins on Monday the 9th of April and ends on the 13th. Our testing schedule is as follows......Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we will test at 8:15 until 9:30. Thursday we will test in the afternoon because of the Band and String Concert in the morning. Please make sure the kids get a good night's rest and they have something to eat before they come to school. Encourage the kids to do their best and not to worry. The tests will consist of reading, math, and writing. They will be taken on the computers.
We are only doing 12 spelling words this week due to the testing. We will alternate math and reading and hopefully we will have our unit 6 test on Friday. Our president unit is in full swing and our presidential portraits are almost read to be put up. Come check out our Hall Of Presidents later this week. Happy Easter to all. I hope everyone is enjoying the halfway decent weather. The snow in my yard is almost gone!
This week should be a pretty normal week. We will begin Wonders, Unit 5 week 1. The new spelling words are posted on the spelling page. In math we are continuing in Unit 6. Our individual fast math is really going well. The kids are loving it. Our presidential unit is in full swing. It looks like our reception will take place sometime in May. We were introduced to Word on the computer this week and we have learned how to save a document. We also have our own portfolio. We will be practicing a couple days this week for the upcoming SAS test. I will be asking the room moms to put up a sign up genius for the purpose of getting snacks for the kids during the week of testing. Cheese and crackers, fruit, juice boxes, muffins, etc. They will be welcomed after the testing ends right around recess time in the morning. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
