Happy weekend everyone. I hope you are all gearing up for the big game this afternoon! Go Pats!!! It was a great Saturday to work around the house. Leaves, leaves, and more leaves.
This week we will begin Wonders Unit 2 week 2. Our genre will be Historical Fiction. The new spelling words are posted on the spelling page. In math we continue to work on multi-step multiplication problems. We are also practicing our addition and subtraction facts. On Thursday, we will have our Halloween parade and party. The parade will begin at 1:00 and when we get back to school we will have our treats. Thank you everyone who signed up to bring in the goodies. I will be sending a permission slip home with the kids this week so we will be able to watch "The Witches" as a class. "The Witches" is a classic written by my favorite author, Roald Dahl and the movie follows the book very closely. The kids just love the story and as a Halloween treat and a reward for doing so well at the Michaelmas Fair, I promised we could watch it. Most of the kids have already viewed the movie trailer at home. They are very excited. On Halloween night, the whole class is invited to my house. You can stop by any time during Trick or Treat hours. The kids homework will be to find my house by using a map (or GPS) ha ha. We will have chili, cider, and doughnuts. The kids will get a nice bag of treats also. Just be careful in the driveway. It is long and dark. Our house is off the beaten path and I get it if some of you can't make it. At the end of the week we will be preparing for our Native American month. The kids will be divided into different Native American groups. They will have an Indian name, and they will be responsible for a project that will be done at home. Our class will have our projects on display for other classes to view at the end of the month. Also, our field trip to the Kearsage Indian Museum will take place on the 22nd of November. I will let you know more about the project the first week of November. We will be discussing project ideas in class. Have a great week everyone. Happy weekend everyone. I have been busy all weekend helping Jim install the new windows upstairs. Luckily the weather has been really nice.
I would like to thank everyone for your hard work and support during Michaelmas Fair time. I know that all of you put in a lot of work and a lot of effort to make the day so successful. Thank you to the wonder parent volunteers and to all of the crafters and the cooks. A special thank you to Sir for the most delicious turkey and stuffing ever. The kids had a great day and they were all so proud and happy. This is a day that they will remember always. That's what school is all about, making memories! We made 5,700 dollars which is a record! We will now be able to pay for our trip to the Indian Museum and the two buses. We will pay for all the kids on the whale watch too. The kids will be given money to purchase a book at the Book Fair. We will also donate to several charities throughout the holidays. I would also like to start a new tradition of giving some of our profit to the sixth grade for Sargent Camp. Thank you again!! This week we will get back to normal. In Wonders Reading, we will be starting Unit 2. Our genre will be fairy tales and our new spelling words are posted on the spelling page. In Math, we are learning our doubles facts in multiplication and learning about division and the relationship to multiplication. Please have the kids keep studying their addition and subtraction facts. It is almost time to start our Native American Unit. We will also be putting up another Sign-Up Genius for the Halloween Party. I will see what the kids would like for treats. Have a great rest of the weekend. Happy Sunday everyone. We had a very busy weekend moving my son Tyler to Peterborough. The house is 1872 and is right along the river. Also only four minutes to Conval High School.
Friday is the big day. Hopefully the kids are finishing up on their crafts. This week we will talk about display advertising and make posters for our crafts. Mrs. Mud is still working on projects for the kids. I can' wait until I can see the tops of the kitchen and dining room tables. The kids will set up in the gym as soon as they get into the classroom. They will sit three to a bench with their crafts and baked goods in front of them. Our time in the gym will be from 8:15 to 11:15. there will be three classes coming in at a time for twenty minute time slots. Please feel free to invite family members to shop. Our feast will take place in our room at 11:30. After recess, we will count the money we made and then go back to the gym and pick all the winners of the raffle prizes. It will be a fun and exciting day. We will not be doing Wonders reading this week. We will be making posters and concentrating on making change and working with money. We will also be pricing our crafts as a class. Our spelling words are also different. We will work with them all week. We will also be talking Fire Safety this week. Our visit with the firemen will be Thursday at 11:15. Hopefully we will see some of you on Friday. The kids can really use the help selling their goods. Even if you can only stay the morning, that would be very helpful. Please drop all food items off in the classroom for the feast. I will have a table set up on the rug. Have a great week everyone. See you on Friday. Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you all enjoyed the Patriot's game. I went to Boston and watched it with two of my college buddies. It was a great win.
Two more weeks until Michaelmas. Mrs. Bradley has posted a sign-up Genius for all the items we will need for the Michaelmas Feast. Hopefully, we will have a lot of parents to help out in the morning on the 18th. We will set up in the gym and we will be ready to start selling at 8:15. We will be there until 11:15. Then we will return to the classroom to have our Michaelmas feast. Feel free o use the classroom for crock pots in the morning. After the feast, the kids will go out to recess and then we will return to count our earnings. At 1:00 we will go down to the gym and the kids will pick all of the winners for the raffle prizes. That is their favorite part of the day. We have talked in the classroom about displaying goods to make their crafts look more appealing. Kids love to come up with creative ways to display their things. We are getting very excited about the fair. The third grade team went shopping Friday night and we bought about 50 prizes for the raffle table. In Wonders reading this week, we will be on Unit 1-week 5. Our genre will be Expository Text. The kids are doing a great job on reading counts. In Math, we will be finishing Unit 1 and reviewing for the assessment. Please have the kids keep practicing their addition and subtraction facts. They are doing a great job on their home links. We are working on water color landscapes for our bulletin board in the hallway. They have an autumn theme and they are coming out beautiful. In science, we are following the fall and talking about changes in nature. In Social Studies we are talking about all kinds of maps and getting a general idea about the globe, the continents, countries and states. We are comparing New Boston to other similar communities around the country. Have a great week everyone! |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
