Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone. The weather seems more like Presidents' Weekend. Oh well, I hope you are all enjoying your time off. We are getting ready for company from Texas this week. My good friend actually taught at New Boston Central School years ago. It will be fun to see her.
We took our first capital test on Friday. I was very impressed. We had four students get all fifty on the first try. The others all got more than half. We will do it again on this Friday. Awesome work you guys. Please remember that our state boxes are due on Thursday the 3rd of June. The kids are very excited about sharing them. Our spelling words look a little different this week. They are not from Wonders. We will still have a test on Friday. We are almost ready for our unit 7 math test. The kids are doing a great job on cross multiplication and long division. Please check out the June calendar on this site to see what is happening in this short month for school. Remember the last day of school is Wednesday the 16th. The kids will be dismissed at 12:00. On the 15, I will have a party for the kids and we will celebrate the summer birthdays. Remember that the 8th of June will be a school day at home for the kids. I will give them a work packet for the day. The same work we would do at school. Our field day will be June 10th. The kids are very excited. Have a great rest of the weekend. Happy Memorial Day everyone. Good weekend everyone. I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful summer weather. It was certainly a hot Saturday. The pool is open and almost ready to go. One more water sample. It was actually very clear when we took the cover off.
The kids worked so hard this week on the SAS testing. They did their best and I was very proud of them. They felt very good about their work. This week we will tackle the Aimsweb test. Math and reading. They have taken these twice already this year. In Wonders this week, we are on Unit 6 week 3. The genre is biography. In math, we will continue with measurement, cross multiplication and our facts. We have started our state unit. We have begun learning the capitals also. The presidents are almost finished and the kids have learned a lot! I can't believe that we only have about 17 days of school left. It just doesn't seem possible. What a challenging year for all of us. Mud's Munchkins pulled through with flying colors. Please don't forget to send in your library books if you have any hanging around. Thank you in advance. Have a great rest of the weekend and a good week ahead. Happy weekend everyone. I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather. Yesterday was spent doing all new landscaping in front of the house. Stones, new plants and bushes, and bark mulch. Not easy on the back I will tell you. Now it is time to tackle the opening of the pool. That is always fun!
This week the kids will be testing first thing in the morning everyday. The tests will take place from 8:15-9:30. The kids will be tested in reading, math and writing. We talked about doing our best and taking the whole time that they are given to do it. They will have scrap paper at all times to gather thoughts and draw pictures if necessary. Everyone should have received a letter from me on Friday. Again, please encourage the kids to just do their best. Nothing to get stressed out about. I told the kids to leave all of the stressing out to me! We will concentrate on finishing up the presidents and doing some stuff in our state folders. The kids have 15 spelling words to work with this week, but we will not be having a test on Friday. I have testing snacks for the kids each day, and please make sure they have something to eat before they come to school. Our gym times for Monday and Tuesday have been rescheduled for 1:00 to 2:00. That will make for two nice afternoons! Remember if the kids have library books at home please have them returned. I can't believe we only have about 20 more days left together for school. Where did the time go? It was certainly a challenging year for all of us, but we made it through with flying colors. I am so proud of Mr. Mud's Munchkins and all of their families. Have a great rest of the weekend and a good week ahead. It looks like it is going to turn Summer very quickly. Happy weekend everyone. I want to wish all of our Moms a happy Mother's Day. I hope you all enjoy this beautiful day with your families. You all deserve to be treated royally today!
This week in Wonders, we will be on unit 6 week 2. The spelling words are found on the spelling page of this website. Our genre for the week is historical fiction. In math, we continue to do fast math and practice our multiplication facts. Some of the kids are really improving and they love doing the minute of fast math. In science this week we will finish up our "living things" unit. We have learned all about selection and we also found out if we could outrun a dinosaur. We are almost three quarters of the way through the presidents. The kids have learned so much about history and leaders of our nation. The kids can start studying their capitals for states at home if they want to get ahead of the game. I will be sending a letter home for the instructions on the state box soon. Remember, next week we will be starting our SAS test on Monday. Early to bed and a good breakfast. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone. Good morning everyone. I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation and you are enjoying this last day of the break. I just returned from the Outer Banks and it was so beautiful down there. It was so great to get away for beach and sun. I can't wait to hear about all of the adventures the kids had over the break. It is hard to believe that we only have about 6 weeks of school left this year. Where did the time go?
In Wonders this week, we will be on Unit 6 week 1. This is our last unit for the year. The new spelling words are posted on the spelling page of this website. Please have the kids study for Friday. They are very tricky words. In math, we will continue our multiplication facts through Fast Math and begin unit 7. Measurement and review of operations will be the main focus. Each of the kids have been given a state to study. We will work on our state folders in class. the kids will be responsible for knowing all 50 capitals and certain things about the state they chose. At the end of the State Unit, the kids will decorate a box and have three items from their state in the box to share with everyone. I will send more information home at a later date. Items could include...a hat, a shirt, a book, a coin, a food item, a cd, pictures, a souvenir, or anything else from the state. Use your imagination and think "out of the box", no pun intended! In science, we will continue our animal unit and in social studies, we continue with the presidents. During the week of May 17-May 20, the kids will be taking the sate assessment test which we refer to as the SAS test. It will be new to the third graders and it is a very different kind of test than they are used to taking. We will have some practice sessions along the way. Our testing time will be each morning from 8:00 to 9:45. Please stress to the kids that it is very important that they try their best and do their best work. I know that they will. have the kids get a good nights rest and have them eat something before they come to school. I don't want the kids stressing out. I tell them to have fun with it and to do their best! Please do not forget to order hot lunch ahead of time. It makes it easier on Mrs. Smith. Don't forget to send in the pictures for the Wall of Heroes if anyone is participating. Remember there is no school on May 31st because of Memorial Day. I would like to wish all of the Moms in all of our third grade families a very Happy Mother's Day on Sunday of next week. Have a great week everyone. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
