Happy weekend to all. I can't believe that we are going to be in the month of October in two days. Where does the time go?
The Mud's Munchkins are doing a great job. They are working very hard and they all aim to please. We are really cooking on Reading Counts! Please remember that Monday September 30 will be Picture Day. Our time is at 11:15. In Wonders this week we will be in Unit 1 week 4. Our genre will be Historical Fiction. The spelling words are posted on the Spelling page. In Math, we are finishing up unit one and we will be preparing for our first Unit 1 Math assessment this week. The kids are getting very excited about Michaelmas. The room moms will be putting up a Sign-Up Genius in a few weeks. Then you can sign up for different items for our feast after the fair. Any help during the day will be deeply appreciated. The kids will need help setting up and making change. We will also need parents to serve at the feast. Off to the Deerfield Fair to meet up with Mr.and Mrs. Howe. Go Patriots! I hope everyone enjoyed the last weekend of summer. Although I think summer is hanging around the next couple of days.
Don't forget that little books are due tomorrow if anyone is filling them out. I think the first magazine collection day is September 25, 2019. Remember if you order on line that counts for double orders for the kid's prizes. We will be working in Wonders reading, Unit one/week 3 this week. The spelling words are posted on the spelling page. We have been talking about maps, directions, states, capitals, and comparing New Boston to other places around the United States. I hope the kids have had a chance to go onto the Wonders site and the Everyday Math site at home. Please have them show you how to do it this week. I will review it again tomorrow. We have started the read aloud, " The BFG ". Ask the kids to tell you all about it. They are loving it. Just a reminder that Michaelmas Fair is only 4 more weeks away. Some of the kids have shared their ideas with me and they sound awesome. Tomorrow on the Autumnal Equinox, we will see if we can get a raw egg to balance on its' round end on the table top. Supposedly, you can only do this twice a year! The kids are doing a great job on their homework. They have been returning it faithfully. That makes Mr. Mud a happy camper. Remember not to fuss over homework. If the kids can't comprehend their home link, just write me a note on the paper or in the assignment book and I will take care of it at school. Please, no stressing over homework! Happy Fall everyone. Have a great week. Our first full week of school is over and we made it through. Sorry the update is late, but we had a houseful of company from New York, a craft fair and the Pat's game. So I will say enjoy the last few hours of your weekend.
All of the kids did a great job on the Aimsweb Math test and reading test. They worked hard and did their best which is all I ask of them. This week we will be starting cursive and we will begin my favorite read aloud, "The BFG." Please have the kids practice their addition and subtraction facts a few minutes each night. It will help them when we get to multiplication. We will have a normal week of reading and math. Wonders will be Unit 1 week 2. math will be focusing on time and money. On Friday, I will be asking the kids if they have an idea for a craft for the Michaelmas Fair. Pinterest is a great site to get some good ideas. Michaels and Hobby Lobby are also great resources. It sounds like we have some good ideas already. This week I will be putting a password in the front of the assignment books for the kids to use at home. This will get you into the Wonders Reading and the Math program. There are some great games the kids can play at home and you can view their books and homelinks. I will also send the first family math letter home. We have a class name. We will be Mud's Munchkins!!! Have a good week everyone. Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weekend.
We had a great first week of school. We can't believe how fast it flew by. We are getting to know each other as the days go by. We've done lots of community building activities. On Monday, we will try to pick our class name and finish our class favorites. I would also like to start our sharing of summer experiences. This week we will formally start the Wonders reading program, the Math program and Spelling. Our spelling words are always posted on the spelling page under MORE. We will work with the spelling words all week and have a test on Friday. The words will always be posted on Sunday by noon and the kids will bring them home on Monday. Please don't forget that Tuesday the 10th is Back To School Night. At six o'clock in the classroom I will explain the whole year to everybody in half an hour. I will go over all of the important dates for the year also. Please try to attend. I promise not to bore you! Thank you for all the wipes and tissues and prize box trinkets you have sent in. The new pencil sharpener works great too!. I really appreciate all of the goodies. You parents did a great job on returning all of the papers. Thank you. I know that was a lot to handle in on e night. We almost have everyone on board for Bloomz. Just a few more to go. I will send out a test message today to make sure everyone receives it. I will be able to see who has viewed it. I hope everyone has some great ideas for Michaelmas. It is only six weeks away. Have a wonderful week everybody. Hopefully I will see all of you on Tuesday at six. Don't forget, if you have signed up for strings, there is a meeting at 5:15. Hello everyone. We had a terrific first day of school. It went by so fast. We went over all the rules and started learning about one another. You parents have lots of homework tonight.
On Wednesday, the kids will be bringing home instructions on how to join Bloomz. It is a means of communication between us for fast updates and news flashes. It would be great if we get everyone on board. The kids are thinking of a class name. We will vote on Friday. Also, I tried to talk up "strings". Third graders may join the band for certain string instruments only. I hope we get some takers. See you all next week at Back To School Night. Happy Labor Day weekend everyone. Enjoy the last few days of your summer vacation. I am looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces on Tuesday morning! Thanks to those who came to visit on Thursday. It was fun to see all of you! Thank you for the generous donations too.
Please don't forget to bring your supplies with you. If you have a pencil box, make sure you have a few items in it from your summer vacation to share with all of us. The first week of school we will be doing a lot of activities to get to know one another. We will be a family of 24. Also, make sure that you bring in a note for Mr. Mud if there is a change of plans in your after school schedule. Make sure you know where to go each night after school. I am looking forward to seeing all of you parents on September the 10th at 6:00 for back to school night. You will learn all about third grade and what is going to happen for the whole year. There will also be a strings meeting at 5:15 for those interested in joining the string band. On the first day of school there will be homework for parents. Please check the kid's folders because there will be all kinds of forms that need to be signed and returned. Our Michaelmas date has been set for October 18th.I hope you guys have some good ideas for crafts to make and sell. Mrs. Mud already has two crafts going for you guys. She really gets into Michaelmas! We will also be voting on a class name the first week of school, so be thinking of a class name that will wow me! For the remaining hot days, you may bring in water bottles, but they will be your responsibility to take care of them. We will be celebrating birthdays this year, so feel free to bring in treats of your choice. Don't forget to bring a snack each day, or you can purchase one for .50 cents at the cafe. I will also have snacks available for those who may forget to pack one. Our snack time is usually 9:20 before heading out to recess at 9:30. Our lunch time is 12:15, and noon recess is from 12:40 to 1:00. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or stop in and visit. I am so looking forward to a great year with everybody. See you bright and early on Tuesday morning! |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
