Happy weekend everyone. It is freezing rain up here on the Mud hill. Drive safely if you are heading out.
Our first Community Meeting was awesome. The kids that represented our room did a fantastic job. Hopefully more of us will submit work for the next one in January. Remember there are other things besides stories and poems. Kids can make a video, showcase their music talent, do a dance, karate, or anything of that nature. We had a great time on our field trip. Our tour guide kept telling Mud's Munchkins that we were one of the smartest classes that ever went through the museum. The kids really knew their stuff. I was very proud of them. Please remember that Native American projects are due on Tuesday. We will put our projects on display for parents on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:00 and again on Wednesday morning from 8:15 to 8:45. Please feel free to come in and visit our museum. Other classes will be coming in to view our projects also. On Wednesday morning at 9:00 the whole school will be having a pep rally to celebrate good behavior. We would like all of the third graders to wear white. There will be fun games going on for all grade levels. Kids will be dismissed at 12:00 on Wednesday. In this season of family, friends and thanks, I would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the time with your families and if you are traveling, take it safe on the roads. Have a great Thanksgiving break. Remember if you'd like to come in for a conference I am available almost everyday after school except Wednesday and also in the morning from 7:15-7:45. I am also willing to conference during our specials Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:35. The kids are doing an amazing job. Happy weekend everyone. It was a very busy weekend for us. Mrs. Mud had a craft fair at the Conval High School and I was invited to sing at St. Lawrence Church at the 4 o'clock mass. Today will be outside work around the house.
On Friday we will be going to the Warner Indian Museum. There will be room for at least two chaperones on the bus if anyone really wants to ride the bus! We will leave school around 8:20 and we will be back to school before the buses arrive. We usually get back around 1:30. Everyone should have received all the information on the permission slips. Kids will need a snack and a lunch. Remember there is a gift shop there too. So the kids may bring money to buy whatever they want. This week we will begin Wonders Unit 2-week4. We will extend the unit for a week and a half. The spelling words will be extended also. There will be no spelling test this week. The kids did a great job on their unit 2 math test. They were also given a cumulative unit 2 test to see how much they have learned since September. They all did a very good job. Remember to keep practicing those addition and subtraction facts. We are busy with our Native American unit. The kids have been researching their Indian groups and finding out so many different things that the Native Americans handed down to us. The kids have been very busy practicing for their December performance also. The play involves singing and dancing and we have had some extra practices. On Wednesday on the half day before Thanksgiving, the PBIS team will hold a pep rally in the gym. We thought it would be nice if all the grade levels would choose different colors. The third graders will be wearing white. If any classes earn enough PAWS cards by Friday to spell the word responsible, they will be invited to stay after the pep rally and they will participate in a special field day as a reward. Mud's Munchkins are in the running. It looks like we will do it. Grades for the first marking period will be closing on December 3. Report cards will come home on the 13th of December. The kids have been working very hard and I am proud of all of them. Some teachers are having conferences now. That doesn't mean that you missed anything. You can conference with me anytime. I am available most afternoons except Wednesdays. I can even meet during specials on Monday through Thursday at 10:35. I am pretty flexible. Have a good week everyone and enjoy the game this afternoon. Happy 3 day weekend everyone. The only thing missing this weekend is a Patriots' game.
The kids in our class along with our first grade buddies created a beautiful flag made out of our hand tracings. Mr. Bridle posted it on our school web page. The kids were very proud of their work. I will be dropping our flag off to the VA Hospital in Manchester before the parade tomorrow morning. Happy Veterans' Day to all of our service members. We shared a very beautiful story about a white table. Ask the kids about it. We are just beginning our Native American Unit. WE have our shields up and we started our research on e-books in the library. We have also shared lots of ideas for our Indian projects. The kids have learned so much already and they are very excited about the field trip. We will begin Wonders Unit 2 week 3 on Tuesday. The new spelling words are posted on the spelling page. In math we will begin Unit 3. It is all about math operations including all kinds of strategies for multiplication and division. Don't forget that the kids may go on line at home to Everyday Math where they can find all sorts of fun math games to practice facts. Have a nice day off everyone. See you on Tuesday. have a great week. Happy November everyone. Thanks to all who made our Halloween party such a great success. The kids were so good and we had some really nice treats. Thanks to all who came out to the house on Halloween night too. It was fun!
This month we will begin our Native American unit. The kids are divided into four groups. Woodland, Pueblo, Northwest and Plains. We will study each group and talk about life style, clothing, foods, shelters and what the Native Americans contributed to us. The kids will have an Indian name and all belong to a separate tribe. We will begin making our shields this week with their name symbols to hang as mobiles. One of my favorite projects. We will be doing all of our research in class and writing reports for our own museum. Along with this study will be our first major project which will be done at home with the help of parents and family. The kids will create something that is related to Native Americans to display in class for other grade levels and families of ours to come into the classroom and view. The projects will need to be no bigger than desk size. In the past the kids have chosen to make a diorama or scene related to their group using things right from nature. Other ideas are tepees, longhouses, igloos, tools, moccasins, pottery, lacrosse sticks, totem poles, canoes, Indian toys, or anything that fits the bill. I told the kids to be creative and to think out of the box! We will be sharing ideas this week in class. The projects will be due on the 26th of November and we will hold our in class museum on the 27th in the morning for family and friends. This is a great time of the year to get together with family to create a project together. Little plastic Indian figures and animals may be used to enhance scenes. Any questions, please don't hesitate to shoot me a text. If the kids are coming home telling you that we are singing Christmas songs please believe it! There are not too many Mondays left to rehearse for our Christmas play in December. This week we will be creating a special flag with our first grade reading buddies for the Veterans. I will deliver it to the V.A. Hospital before Monday which is Veterans' Day. They are so appreciative when I arrive with it. We are working on the same spelling words as last week because of Halloween. We will have a spelling test on Friday. We have also stretched out unit 2 week 2 in Wonders reading. Our unit 2 math test will be coming up in about a week. We are still working very hard at borrowing and carrying. Soon we will formally start our multiplication facts. It is never too soon to get started! Even though November is a short school month, there is a lot to cover. Don't forget our Warner Indian Museum field trip will be coming up on November 22nd. I would love to have 8-10 parents to come along with us. It is a beautiful museum where the kids learn so much. Permission slips will be coming home next week. Most of the teachers will be setting up conferences in the next few weeks. If you would like to sit and chat please let me know. I am available most afternoons at 2:30 except on Wednesdays. Also I am at school in the morning by 7:15 and that would work too. In this season of giving thanks and family time, I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you for all you do and for sharing your children with me! Have a great week everyone. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
