Yeah!! We made through a five day week. The first one since Thanksgiving. Hopefully we will do the same this week.
We had a great ice cream party on Friday. we were treated by the PTA for coming in first place for the Read-A-Thon. Thank you so much for contributing. Our class has so much school spirit. We just completed our Unit 5 math test and everyone did an amazing job. Please keep those facts going at home. We have started a new "fast math" program where the kids are progressing at their own pace learning their facts. The Radsox are liking it very much. It is a competition against one self. We are finding out that studying at home really helps. We will be doing Wonders Unit 4, week 5 this week. Our theme will be poetry. We will be talking about all kinds of poetry and reading lots of poems. During the week of April 9th, we will be taking the SAS tests which stands for Statewide Assessment System. These tests are on the laptops and the testing will be done in class. The testing will last about 1 and 1/2 hours each day. Each student will be assessed in Reading, Math and Writing. The tests will include the traditional multiple choice questions and there will be short answer responses. this is a very different test than what the kids might be used to. We have been practicing for the tests in class so the kids will know what to expect. I will be asking the room moms to put up a sign up genius for snacks that whole week. Waters and snacks will be ideal. Our testing will take place first thing in the morning. Please make sure the kids get a good night's rest and they eat something before coming to school. It may be a very trying week for some of us. All we ask is that they do their best. I know the Radsox will rock this out!!!!! Hopefully we can have a full week of school this week! Spring is on Tuesday and it certainly doesn't look like spring.
PI(pie) Day was a huge success. The kids really enjoyed the pies and we also had fun doing the experiments that prove the theory. Ask the kids to sing you the PI song. We also had a visit from Louie the Leprechaun and had some delicious snacks to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We had some good news from the PTA this week. Our class took first in the Read-A-Thon. We will receive 100.00 dollars to spend on classroom books and we will also have an ice cream party. The Radsox are very excited. We have so much school spirit. This week we will be doing Wonders 4-4. The spelling words can be found on the spelling page. We are finishing up chapter 5 in our math book and we will have our assessment one day this week. The unit 6 newsletter has been sent home. We continue to practice our multiplication facts. In science, we have started a new unit on weather. On Friday we went outside and drew pictures of the sky and the weather at that moment. On the bulletin board in the hallway, the kids have created their favorite book covers and told why they liked that particular book. I hope everyone stays safe and has a good snow day. I just went for snowshoe trip through the woods and it is so peaceful and quiet.
Tomorrow, March 9th, Friday, we will hold our read-a-thon in the library at 8:45. Please have the kids bring in their pledges. Also, the kids can dress up as their favorite fictional character or they may wear their pajamas. Happy March everyone. I hope you all had a great vacation. Florida was beautiful with sunny days and temps in the high 80's everyday. WE did numerous parks and poolside for most of the week. It was a very long drive on the way back. I am looking forward to seeing all of the kids again. We will also be welcoming a new student. Sarah will be joining us on Monday the 5th.
We have a few special days in March, so please check the Calendar page. The book fair will be set up all this week. Our class will preview on Tuesday. Please remind the kids that if they are participating in getting pledges for the PTA Read-A-Thon, that the money will be due on Thursday the 8th. That is the day we will go to the library to read with our buddies for half an hour. It is also Pajama Day. We will continue studying fractions in Math and of course we continue with our multiplication facts. Our next unit math test will be next week. Our second major writing project for the year is completed. The kids did a great job on their opinion writing. The teams will go over them on the teacher workshop day which is the 13th of March. In Wonders, we will begin Unit 4 week 3. Our theme for the week is Fictional Narrative. We continue to read our weekly serial in the Union Leader on Tuesdays. Our new spelling words can be found on the spelling page. They are very tricky words this week. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
