Happy October everyone. This is my favorite time of the year. It sounds like everyone has some great ideas for their Michaelmas crafts. The big date is October 19th. Hopefully some of you can come in and help for part of the day. We will be putting up a sign-up Genius for the Michaelmas feast in our class after the fair. Thank you for filling out all of the papers for the kids. I will get the e-mails to Samantha's mom(Leah) and Connor's mom(Meredith). They will take care of all the parties and events throughout the year. We also have moms doing behind the scenes organizing. Thanks for volunteering.
Congratulations to all of the Thunder who ran for class representative. I was so proud of all the candidates. Their speeches were well done and their platforms were very sincere. In the end it was Finn who came out the winner and Alexis, who will be our alternate. Congratulations to you both. We had an actual voting moment, with a check in point and a ballot box. The kids loved it. Now we will be a team and come up with some great ideas for Finn to take to the student council meetings. We have 14 parents signed up for Bloomz. I have approved all who messaged me. It's very easy and it's free. This week will be a usual week. The room has been transformed into October and the kids will get a kick out of all the decorations. We will be in Wonders Unit 1, week 4 for reading and spelling. In math we are working with division and collecting data. Have a great week everyone. Dear Parents,
Thank you for the tremendous showing at Back To School Night. I will be sending all of the e-mail addresses to the room moms so they can start organizing the info for class parties and other activities. I am sending home a paper where you will be able to sign up for Bloomz. It is a free app that works both on the computer and the smart phone. This will be the perfect way for me to send out alerts and last minute information. Please look for the informational letter on HOW TO SIGN UP FOR BLOOMZ using your smartphone/android. Once you sign up, I will need to approve you - and we will be on our way! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I'm so glad the weather turned cooler. It was way too hot to be in school. Attitudes are much better when it is cooler also.
I had the pleasure of going to a Red Sox-Mets game with Dr. Stokes and his two boys. My Mets lost, but we still had a blast. I even cheered for the Sox at one point! Don't forget this week on Tuesday night at 6:00 in my room,we will hold "Back To School Night". Remember this is only for the parents. I will be going over lots of information that is important for the year. I have all the dates for the field trips too.I will also be going over the new report card with you. Michaelmas Fair is the 19th of October. It is one of the most fun days in third grade. I will be talking about that on Tuesday night also. I have some books with projects and other ideas if they are needed. Mrs. Mud is a great resource also. She already has a few projects going for the kids. I won't see the dining room furniture or the table until November!n This week will be a regular week as far as I see it now. We will be in Wonders Reading-Unit 1 week 3. The new spelling words are on the spelling page. Remember we will always have a practice test on Monday, work with the words all week, then we will have our assessment on Fridays. In Math, we are working on reviewing time, carrying. and tallying. In Social Studies, we are working on map skills and the three branches of Government. We discussed the Constitution at length and took a virtual tour of Independence Hall. The kids have a much better understanding of the document now. We even wrote our own Constitution for our classroom. We are a very spirited bunch and we continue to learn all about each other everyday. Welcome to our first full week of school. This week we have two important events. Picture day will be on Tuesday and the Magazine kickoff will be on Thursday. Also, we will take our first Aimsweb Reading test and our first Aimsweb Math test on Tuesday and Thursday. We will take the Aimsweb assessments three times during the year. Please encourage the kids to do their best.
We had a great week. Everyone did a great job on their first spelling test and we also aced our first reading test and vocabulary test that goes along with Wonders. Please plan on coming on back to school night next Tuesday at 6:00. I will be sharing a lot of information with you about the year. We will be in Unit 1, week 2 in Wonders this week. In Math we are working on reviewing time and number patterns. Our spelling words can be found on our spelling page. They are the week 2 words in Wonders. In Social Studies, we are studying maps and talking about different communities and how they compare to New Boston. I am very impressed with the kids' journal writing. They are doing a fantastic job. Have a great week everybody! Welcome to third grade. It was a very hot and sweaty first week, but we made it through. We are a family of 22 and we spent most of the first week getting to know each other.
Our class name for this year will be Mr. Mud's Third Grade Thunder. We spent a lot of time discussing every name that the kids came up with and we discussed the voting procedure. This week will begin our regular routine. We will begin Wonders' Reading Program and Everyday Math. For each night ,I will ask the kids to read 20 minutes a night. We will usually have a home link that reinforces the daily math lesson. Each morning,we will spend half an hour writing in our journals. I am so impressed with our writing and it is only the first week of school. We will start off the week with our new spelling words that come from our reading program. The words are listed on the spelling page of this website. We will have a practice test on Monday and a formal assessment on Friday after working with the words all week. Bonus words will be added or offered as the year progresses. Please don't have the kids stress out about homework. If they don't seem to get it, just write me a note in the assignment book and I will take care of it. I hope that you will all be able to attend Back To School Night when I will explain everything in detail. Hopefully the kids will have some good ideas about their Michaelmas crafts that they will be making at home. The big day will be October 19th. I will also explain more about that on Back To School Night. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or jot down a note in the assignment book. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
