I can't believe that this is our last full week of school. Where did the year go? It will be hard to let go of the Third Grade Thunder!
Our whale watch was just the best ever. We have never seen two whales breach out of the water together and will probably never see that again. The kids and the crew were just fascinated. Just to see the kids' reaction to that, was all worth it for me. Thanks to all the chaperones who accompanied us on the trip. That was certainly a lifetime memory. Our bus driver said she didn't even think that there were any kids on the bus. They were that quiet! This week we will be busy finishing up our animal study in Science, especially the whales. Also, we will be finishing up our State Theme. Don't forget that state boxes are due on Thursday. Please try to have two or three things from your state in the box. Boxes should be decorated on the outside with things appropriate to the state being studied. This will be our last project of the year. In math, we will take our unit 7 assessment and try to finish our math journal. There will be no formal spelling this week. We will continue to work on the words from last week. On Monday the 17th, I would like to have an end of the year celebration and also celebrate the summer birthdays. I will plan on the last half hour of the day, unless something else comes up. I will let everyone know. Please feel free to come to the end of the year BBQ on Thursday the 13th. It is free for kids and adults who have volunteered all throughout the year. Don't forget that Tuesday the 18th is a half day. Dismissal will be at 12:00. I hope you are all outside enjoying this beautiful weekend. I spent two days in a row on the water in a boat. What a great way to spend a weekend. Have a great week everyone. Happy June 1st everyone. I just can't believe we only have 12 days of school left. It has been one great year.
The last project of the year will be a state box that the kids will need to make at home. Please keep it smaller than desk top. Kids can decorate the outside of the box with things from their state. I have given them lots of ideas. Inside the box, the kids will need to put three things from their state. We have talked about this also. The boxes will be due on the 13th of June, Thursday. The kids did a great job on their first capital test. I was wowed by a lot of them. Thank you to those who studied hard. We will do it again on Thursday afternoon. Break out those flash cards this week. The whale watch will be this Friday. There will be room for three or four chaperones on the bus. I would like to have someone drive with a larger vehicle so parents can carpool. That way we don't have 20 cars following the bus. If you are willing to drive please let me know. We will set up the cars with riders on the morning of the trip. Chaperones and kids will need to be in the classroom by 8:00. WE would like to leave by 8:15. All kids must ride the bus back and forth unless you have written permission from the office. We should be back to school at 4:30 if traffic goes well. Please watch the weather. Even though it says 70 degrees on shore, it is always 25 degrees cooler 40 miles out. It is best to dress in layers. There is food on the boat, snacks and drinks. Keep your fingers crossed for the whales to be out and about. We will be finishing up unit 7 in math, and we are in the last unit of Wonders for reading. We are working on our state folders and we will study whales all week. The kids will research a whale in class and write a report to share with the class. Please see the calendar page because there is a lot going on the last couple of weeks. Have a great week everyone. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
