I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had a great time with family and friends.
This week we will be in Wonders Unit 2, week 4 for reading. The spelling words are listed on the spelling page. In math, we are continuing with Unit 3. Please have the kids keep studying their multiplication facts for a little bit each night. Don't forget that our field trip will be held on Tuesday. Chaperones can come to school with the kids. We will plan to leave by 8:30. There is plenty of room on the two buses. Remember kids will need a snack and lunch. No glass bottles please. We will return to school by 2:00. The Native American projects will be due on Wednesday the 28th. Parents may come in and view the projects on Friday morning from 8:30-10:30. If that doesn't work just slip in anytime and take a look if you are at school between Wednesday and Friday. The kids will be presenting their projects to their classmates Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. The kids will be graded on their oral report and their overall project. We are still busy practicing for our play. It is sure to be very entertaining. Don't forget about the class "Sports" Basket. Any sports item will do. Thank you. Have a great week. I will see some of you on Tuesday. A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Safe travels to all. Enjoy the time off with your families and friends.
Please make sure the kids have a pair of extra shoes or slippers to wear in the classroom during the winter months. It is a long day to sit with wet boots or wet sneakers. Most of the kids have a big bag to keep their wet clothes in. That is a great idea. Please remember, our field trip is now on Tuesday the 27th of November. Chaperones may come to school with the kids and ride the bus. We will return by 1:30. The Native American projects are due on Wednesday the 28th. Kids will be responsible for sharing the information they learned about their project with their classmates. We will have our classroom museum on Friday morning from 8:30 until 10:30. Please feel free to stop by and take a look at all of the projects. Hope to see you there. We have been very busy getting ready for our Christmas pirate play. We are learning our lines and learning the songs. The practice is coming along great. I hope everyone had a nice three day weekend. I had a chance to go away and watch college basketball in Maine. Yes, it snowed up there on Friday night.
Please have the kids finish up their stars for Wednesday at the latest. If they can't think of a name to honor, we talked about other names they could use in school. We will put together a huge wreath with the stars and I will deliver it to the Veteran's Hospital in Manchester. We had an excellent lesson on Veteran's Day with our first grade buddies and I think the kids really understand what it's all about. We completed two math tests this week and we are now ready for Unit 3. The kids did an excellent job. We will begin our first big writing assignment on Wednesday. They will be addressing "Point of View." This will take a couple of days to complete. We will also be having extra music practices off and on during the next few weeks. Please make sure the permission slips for the field trip are back this week. I need to give the museum the numbers by Friday. Don't forget that Indian projects are due on the 28th of November. If you are stuck on an idea, I have tons of ideas in the classroom. The kids are very excited about constructing their projects. They will be graded on the project itself and they will be graded on an oral report that they will give in front of their classmates on the information they gained from their project. Please remember to keep the projects desk size. Think out of the box. I want to be wowed by the kids creativity. Other classes and teachers always enjoy the projects. If anyone would like a conference please feel free to contact me. It might make more sense to wait until the new report cards come out. I am available every morning from 7:15 to 7:45 and most afternoons except Wednesdays. Have a great week! Happy November everyone. Thanks to all for a wonderful Halloween party. The kids had a blast. It was so much fun to see everyone at the house last night. Thanks for coming up.
On Monday we will be starting our Native American Unit. This is a favorite with the kids. We will study the four main groups of Native Americans. The Woodland Indians, The Plains Indians, The Southwest Indians and the Northwest Indians. We will be divided up into four groups and we will all be given Indian names. Our first project will be a shield with our Indian symbol on it. Most of the work will be done in class. We will have a finished folder with tons of information at the end of the month. Our major project for the month will be a Native American project that will be done at home with the family. The project has to be desk size and it has to pertain to Native Americans. We will be talking about ideas in the class. Lots of kids choose to make Indian scenes with Tepee villages, longhouses, igloos, etc. We have had baskets, dream catchers, jewelry, pottery, pueblos, lacrosse sticks, bow and arrows, totem poles and canoes to name a few. Remember, Mr. Mud loves to see creative things. When the kids come up with an idea after they talk about it at home, I will give them the okay. We will have our own classroom museum for other classes and parents and friends. I will also send home a letter to remind kids to get working on their project if it starts to get toward the middle of the month. Think out of the box. Use recycled materials, use things in nature. The kids probably remember the projects they saw last year. Please contact me if you have any questions. Our first field trip will be to the Warner Indian Museum. It will be held on the 20th of November. We will need 6-8 chaperones for the trip. Parents may drive their own cars and there will be room on the bus if you are brave enough! The permission slips will be coming home soon. The kids will be bringing home a calendar today. Out of the 30 days in November, we only have 17 and a half days of school. Lots of fun things going on. This is the time of year where family and friends are thought of. We will be stressing on how important family is, not only in this time of the year, but also throughout the rest of the year. Remember, report cards will not be coming out until December. Please feel free to stop by and help us out the first hour of the morning with our work. We love having community involved. Save travels to those that will be going away to spend the holiday with their families. |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
