I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Hopefully most of the ice is melted. My driveway is almost back to normal.
We will be doing Unit 3-Week 5 in Wonders this week. The spelling words are posted on the spelling word page. In math, we will be finishing up chapter 4 and continuing to work on area and perimeter. The kids should be studying their multiplication facts at home a little each night. We have lots of tools to help us with them in class.
In Social Studies, we have been talking about the three branches of government and learning about other communities in the United States. We have also learned how to use a map scale.
It is almost time to start planning the Valentine's Party. The kids should be preparing a box at home for their Valentines. They can decorate it anyway they want to. I will talk to the kids and see what they would like for the party.
For our read aloud series, we are reading "Wayside School". Ask the kids to tell you about it. We just finished Matilda. The kids may be considering that for their reward movie.
Report cards will be coming home on Friday the 2nd of February. I am very proud of this class and their accomplishments. Radsox are the best!!!
Wow!!!! What a win for the Pats!! Super Bowl here we come. I hope all enjoyed the game. Hopefully, we will have a normal five day week coming up.
We have extended the Wonders unit through this week. For those of you who follow at home, we are on Unit 3-week 4. We will do the same spelling words this week also and have our test on Friday. the words are posted on the spelling page.
Grades close on Tuesday and it is almost report card time once again. It is hard to believe that half the year is over.
We have made multiplication books in class. I would like the kids to be studying at home at least ten minutes a night. We will work on our 3's and 4's very hard in school. Every Friday we will have a quiz to see where the kids are at. In math this week, we will be working on area and perimeter.
Please check out our snowman stories on the bulletin board. The kids did a great job.
We had a great yoga session with Mrs. Caron. Hopefully we will be able to do yoga every other week. The kids really enjoyed it.
Thank you to all who donated to our New England Sports basket. It looks great. See you all at the Lip Sync contest on Saturday night. Good luck to all of the participants.
I hope everyone had a great three day weekend. I attended a great workshop on Friday. Unfortunately, on the way home my car broke down on 93 and then I came down with the flu. I am much better now and ready for the week. More snow in the forecast???
We have a new set of spelling words from Wonders Unit 3 Week 4. They are posted on the Spelling Words page. The kids will be tested on Friday.
In Science this week, we watched videos on bridges, and then the fun began. The kids had the opportunity to work in small groups to plan and build their own bridge. The challenge was two use only two pieces of paper and then to see how much weight could be placed on the bridge. It was amazing to see the different structures. One bridge held 567 pennies. There are a few pictures posted on the Class Happenings page.
We will be working on Wonders- Unit 3 Week 4. It is a non fiction story about Nature.
In math this week we will be discussing polygons, perimeter, and area. Please have the kids work on memorizing their multiplication facts at home. 2's thru 5's.
On Tuesday morning and Thursday morning, we will be taking our Aimsweb tests in Reading and Math. These are given three times during the year. Please encourage the kids to take their time and do their best. I know they will.
Friday morning we will be treated to a Yoga session by Mrs. Caron. We are looking forward to that.
The After Christmas party was amazing. Thank you everyone for sending in food and drinks. The kids had a blast and they all enjoyed their gifts. Thank you so much for all of my wonderful Christmas gifts. I am one lucky guy. I hope all the kids enjoy their snow globes and their Radsox Snoopy Stockings that Mrs. Mud made for them.
Please make sure the kids have the appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. We do go out if the temperature is 14 degrees or above, unless there is a windchill factor. It would be nice to have an extra pair of slippers or shoes in class, so the kids don't have to sit in their wet boots.
We are stretching Wonders to another week for lesson 3-3. We will be having a spelling test on Friday on the words listed on the website. We have been working with them for almost two weeks. Hopefully, we will have a "normal" week this week.
In math, we continue to talk about measurement and geometric shapes.
We will begin our winter Aimsweb assessments this week also. The kids will be assessed in Math and reading.
I hope everyone had a safe and eventful snow day. So now....wait for it... we will have our After Christmas Party at 11:00 on Friday. Please send in what you can if you were signed up, and we will make the best of it.
Skiing has been cancelled for tomorrow also.
We have decided to have our After-Christmas Party on Thursday at 10:30. If you signed up for something, hopefully you can still help us out. I have all the paper goods. Please feel free to join us. Please have the kids bring their presents for the gift exchange if they haven't done so yet. If school is cancelled because of snow, I will get back to everybody once again.
It was good to see everyone today. What a great time we had sharing vacation stories.
We are starting off with Wonders this week. We are back to normal spelling words which you can find on the spelling words page. In math, we will be talking about measuring and geometric shapes. Please have the kids start memorizing their multiplication facts. We will make study books in school. Remember there is no school on Monday the 15th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school!
