I will be working with the administrators and my colleagues beginning tomorrow to implement an effective learning plan for the kids. I have no idea what that will look like yet. As I get more information, I will pass it on to you through the web-site and Bloomz. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to call me at home or text. Please keep checking the web -site and Bloomz. Please make sure all of the kids can get on to Wonders and ED Math on line. Hopefully everyone has access to a computer. Their codes are on the inside cover of their assignment books. Please tell the kids I say hello and I miss them already! Stay safe and healthy. I will keep in touch. Thank you! Mr. Mud Happy weekend everyone. It has been a weekend of company and basketball. My son Tyler's JV boys basketball team from Conval are in a tournament all weekend. They won against Milford yesterday and today they face Pelham. The Varsity boys are going to the playoffs. They only lost one game all season. Exciting times!
Thank you to all who responded so quickly to the sign up genius for PI Day. The kids will be so excited. It's not to early to be thinking about SAS testing. This is a test that is put out by the state and the third graders will be taking it for the first time. It is a very different test from what they are used to. I encourage them to so their best and not to get all stressed out about it. Our window for testing will be the week of May 11th to May 15th. We will test first thing in the morning. The time will be about 90 minutes. The kids will be tested on Math and Language Arts. They also have to write an essay which is quite involved. It is so much easier if the kids are there for the testing days. Then they don't have to stress out about making a part of it up that they missed. Please have the kids get a good night's rest and eat something before the testing. I will ask for snacks that week also. This week we will start our president unit. The kids did some research on Friday and they are really into it. All of our speeches will be written in class. Remember kids will have to dress up as their president. Please check with other families who have done this before for outfits. I do have some pants and jackets in school so check with me if you can't find anything. Good Will is another great place to get clothes for this event. Reading Wonders this week will be Unit 4 week 3. Spelling words are listed on the spelling page. Our genre this week is Expository Text. Remember kids can take reading counts tests at home. In Math, we are finishing up unit 5. Our assessment should be at the end of the week. Please have the kids keep practicing their multiplication facts. Our second major writing piece will also take place this week. Over the course of two days, the kids will write an opinion piece. We have been prepping for this and the kids are ready. They will construct a rough draft and then write their final piece following a rubric. Remember there is no school on Tuesday. It will be voting day. Have a great week everyone. Happy Sunday everyone. I can't believe it is March! I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation. We just got back from vacation in Florida. We drove straight through to get home and did it in 19 hours. The weather was chilly, but sunny. High 60's during the day and 40's at night. It was still nice to get sun by the pool. No traffic when you drive straight through at night. It is good to be home. I can't wait to hear about all the vacation adventures.
This week we will be in Wonders reading,Unit 4-week 2. The focus is on realistic fiction. Please remember to have the kids take reading counts tests at home. Mrs. Howe has a deal going on with us for a challenge. Our read aloud is "Danny, Champion of the World". The kids are loving it. In math, we will continue with fractions and our multiplication facts. Some of us are flying through the times tables. It is now time for our Presidential Unit. Some of the kids know who they want to be for a president and we will talk about that this week. We will research all of the presidents for the next two months and then we will have a Presidential Reception for parents and families. The kids will make a speech as their president and dress as their president. After the speeches, we will share favorite presidential foods, punch and cake. As soon as I get a date I will post it for all of you. It will probably be towards the end of April. This is an awesome unit and the kids will actually be taking a trip through History. They will learn so much, you will be amazed! We will study each president, their wives, and their contributions to history. Remember , I may have a future president in the classroom. I can think of a few!! Only 20 days until spring and don't forget to spring ahead next Sunday with the clocks. Have a great week everybody! |
I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
