Happy Memorial Day to all. We just got back from a quick trip to New York. We were able to tour Angry Orchard, which is about 35 minutes from my hometown of Port Jervis, NY. We also visited with friends and relatives.
Thank you to all who came to the Presidential Reception. It was the biggest turnout ever. I was so very very proud of the kids. They did an outstanding job. Their speeches and their costumes were just top notch. They will take this president and history knowledge with them and remember it for the rest of their lives! This week is a busy one for us. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be taking the Aimsweb assessment tests. Tuesday will be reading and Wednesday will be math. Please encourage the kids to do their best. I know they will. On Wednesday, the New England Aquarium will be presenting their whale program to the third graders. This is the second year for us. They did an excellent job last year and so we had them come back. Thank you to the volunteers that are coming to get trained and to help out. Thursday is our Memorial Day Program in the gym. Please have the kids try to wear red, white or blue. This is a very popular and solemn presentation for us. There is always a big turnout. For reading this week in Wonders, we will be continuing last week's story. The testing will take up most of our mornings. I will have a special list of spelling words this week. They will be posted on the spelling page. In math, we will be continuing to work in unit 7. Fractions are the main focus. The kids are doing great. Keep up the practice for the multiplication facts. We will be starting our state theme this week. The kids can get started on learning the capitals. We will have a capital test every Friday til the end of school. I have a lot of tricks to help the kids remember some of them. I will tell the kids more about their state boxes this week also. They will be responsible for decorating the outside of their state box and then finding three things from their state to put in the box. We will also be starting our study of whales to get prepared for pour whale watch which will be a week from this Friday. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather. I'll take chilly, just no rain please. The captain is very good at keeping us updated the week of the trip. If he feels the conditions are not safe, he will not take the kids out. This happened to us last year. We did have to reschedule. Have a great week everyone. Enjoy the beautiful weather. Comments are closed.

I Believe...Let the kids be kids. Every child has a strength. It is up to the teacher to find it or tap it so they can work to their highest potential. I tend to set the bar very high. Lifetime memories should be made in the classroom and at school. NBCS should be a place where kids enter happy and go home with a smile on their face. I want my kids getting up in the morning begging to go to school! Archives
